Loss of Income

Please don't stop helping!

Barbara

I've been making some progress toward creating my own freelance business. It's slow, but I have hope. It's very hard to ask for help from friends, let alone complete strangers, but I must. The smallest donations really DO add up, and you will know that you have helped someone in true need. I have been a '99er since October 2010. My only income is donations from friends and "strangers" with big hearts and jobs. I am still diligently looking for work daily. I'm almost 60 years old and partially disabled, but not enough to qualify for disability benefits. I am truly between a rock and a very hard and cold place. Thank you all, so much. Barb P.

Death in Family

SHE LOST EVERYTHING. NOW HEART ISSUES. PLEASE HELP CHRISTINA.

Good Samaritan

UPDATE ON CHRISTINA: Please take just a moment to read this.  As I posted previously, Christina has had some difficulty in breathing, chest pain, tightness and extreme fatigue.  She is in need of medical tests.  She has no medical insurance and no money.  Anything you can do to help is urgently needed and will be tremendously appreciated. For documented proof of her case, please visit: http://christinasrecovery.weebly.com/links-to-documentation.html.(Please Note: All donations to her website will reach her immediately). I cannot say enough what this woman has been through. She had a life, just like you and I. She had a very modest home, a husband of nearly 16 years that she loved, an automobile, things just like you and I. She and Joseph rescued animals, nursed them back to health and cared for them. She lost all of that in a millisecond. Her life as she knew it is gone. She has struggled so hard since just to keep living. He left absolutely nothing. They had just lost their home to foreclosure. 3 days later, he committed suicide. She was left with nothing other than grief the likes of which I cannot even begin to comprehend. They were already in trouble as was apparent by the loss of their home to foreclosure. Then, his income ceased immediately upon his death. All of their belongings were in a storage building, all of which Christina lost after Joseph's death due to lack of money. Then, she lost their rescue pets, as she had no way to take care of them, no home and no money. They are safe in someone else's home. Christina is not. And, she loved them so much. I am 2000 miles away from her and can't leave as I am caring for my elderly parents in my home. I lost my business last year, so my income is very and uncomfortably fixed. However, I want nothing for myself. Nothing will go to me. I can take care of Mom and Dad for the time being. But, Christina can't get her head above water. It is tragic to me that a human life surviving or not surviving comes down to money.  A few dollars.  Due to a decision she did not make and had no control over.  Please help Christina! I am concerned a second life is going to be lost in this.  She has been fully verified on Microgiving.  Please. She has been through so much. Any amount is helpful. Thank you and bless you in advance. Her story is below. You can also read it in her own words and in more detail at www.christinaswish.wordpress.com.This past April, my friend lost everything. Her husband to suicide three days following the loss of their home to foreclosure, as well as all of their belongings. She has been left not only with a broken heart, but with absolutely nothing from her life, no home and an enormous amount of debt. Will you please help?Christina and Joseph were together for eighteen years and married for sixteen. They started out like any other couple. In love and with dreams. They lived modestly through the course of their marriage in the same small two bedroom home they had picked out together while engaged. They had a beautiful white, outdoor wedding. They were animal lovers and advocates who took in unwanted, abandoned, or hurt animals, nursed them back to health, adopted them, and cared for them. You'll see their beloved rescue animals in Christina's video. And, like every couple, they had their ups and downs. But, in the late 2000s, things began to change for the worst. Due to the economic climate change, Joseph, as many others, was laid off from his job. The pattern repeated three times over the following few years. In an attempt to recover, the couple filed bankruptcy. But, to no avail. Then, the unthinkable happened. In April, 2011, their home was taken from them during foreclosure proceedings. Just days later, on April 15, 2011, Joseph took his life. Imagine starting over with nothing after spending nearly twenty years building a life that was abruptly, and without warning, taken from you. I have watched my friend lose everything and I have watched her crumble. It is absolutely heartbreaking. In addition to the grief of losing her husband, Christina is in financial crisis. Joseph had been collecting unemployment benefits after his last layoff. Those benefits ceased immediately upon his death. Upon losing their home, all of their belongings including furniture, clothing, and all personal items, everything that had been in their home for sixteen years, were packed and placed in a storage building. All of it was lost as Christina was unable to pay the storage cost. Joseph's car was also lost. Even their cherished pets had to be given away, as Christina was no longer in a position to care for them after losing her home, her husband, income, and all belongings. Joseph's medical bills alone for the hours following, as well as paramedics costs, amount to over $100,000 in unpaid debt. She hasn't enough even to survive day to day. My goal is to enlist the assistance of others in helping Christina have a home and rebuild her life. I live over 2,000 miles away and am on a fixed income. I cannot do this alone. All donations are terribly and urgently needed.Regardless of your personal or spiritual feelings regarding suicide, Christina did nothing wrong. She had no knowledge of or control over the circumstances or the outcome. This should never happen to another human being. She has been left alone with no one and nothing. The love of her life is gone, she has no home, no belongings. Life can change on a dime. It can happen to any one of us. Please extend your heart and your help to Christina. Your donation will go directly to Christina.  Nearly twenty years of her life vanished, as well as any semblance of what she knew and who she loved. Everything she had and worked for is gone. Please help her. Joseph's life has been lost. Let's save hers. Please. Together, we can.Thank you. You have made a difference today. To read Christina's story in her own words:www.christinaswish.wordpress.comThank you.

Domestic Violence

Working on Better Ourselves Dealt Major Blow

Karen Ferguson

Not sure where to turn to any more.  My son Jonathan and I have been working very hard to better ourselves and take back control of our lives.  However, at 2:30 A.M.on April 2, 2012,  our efforts to better ourselves was dealt a major blow when our only form of transportation was taken away from us due to not having any income to pay the car payments.  As of the results of loosing the car, Jonathan and I are once again struggling to make our life better and desperately need help. For 13 years Jonathan and I were victims of domestic violence, until finally one judge finally stopped the vicious cycle we had lived in.  As a result of the domestic violence I suffer from chronic pain from the numerous physical and emotional impacts that were forced upon us. And this is only one of the many disabilities I currently suffer from.  Since 2008 I have undergone 6 major surgeries including but not limited to having my spine repaired due to a fracture I received during one of my many beatings. For five years now I have been trying to obtain Social Security Disability only to be denied over and over again.  After the last denial I decided it was time that I do what I needed to do for Jonathan and I and that was to throw myself back into the ring of finding a job.  Despite the numerous limitations I suffer and the amount of pain I will be in, I am willing to do what I have to, to better our lives.  Since July of 2008 I have been working on my Bachelor's degree and even through all of the operations, recovery, trials and other stress I have been able to maintain a 3.81 GPA and will be graduating on June 9, 2012 and will be completely done with school on July 30, 2012.  Since I threw myself back in to the job ring, I have been on four interviews and receive call at least once a week from people seeking my services.  However, due to where we live which is extremely rural and the fact that there is no public transportation, any efforts that I have been putting forth to find a job now have to come to an end until I can find reliable transportation.  I am now unable to receive the medical care I so desperately need as I have no means in which to get there.  Much like we were prisoners during all the years of domestic violence, we are now prisoners due to having no transportation.   In addition, my parents will not be able to get the services I offered to them with having the car as they are both ill and do not have any means of transportation and thus I will not be able to help my parents.  A nice reliable form of transportation has been located for us but now I have to raise the money in which to purchase it and put Jonathan and I back on the road to bettering ourselves.   Please know that any money that is donated is going to help to individuals who are always there for others and having the transportation is not just for selfish purposes it is also to help others who truly needed the help like my parents and other individuals who rely on us for transportation.

Loss of Income

The well's almost dry, and the bills are piling high

Walter

I have been out of work for some time, and my unemployment will soon run out.  I am in the process of starting my own business selling children's books, but it is a slow process.  I also look for jobs every day in hopes of finding something while I get my business off the ground.  However, as a result of the lowered income, it has been difficult to pay bills that have been piling up since my lay off.  I've narrowly avoided eviction and am barely holding off the repo man and collection agencies, but I am quickly sinking.  Therefore, I am asking for any help you can provide.

Lemurs, Disturbance, and the Malagasy

Jennifer Moore

I'm heading to Madagascar on May 19th to spend 3 months in Marojejy National Park on the northeast side of the country. Marojejy, like many of the parks within the country, are being disturbed because of illegal logging, the pet trade, or the bushmeat trade. Because of this, the rainforest is being cut down, and the lemurs are losing their habitats. As part of my Master's Project, I am heading out to take a survey of the lemurs in the area as well as the amount of habitat disturbance. These findings will then be presented to the National Park, showing them areas of high lemur densities, and areas of high disturbances so they know the important areas of the park for conservation. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world, so in visiting Madagascar it is important to me to work with locals, as well as invest in their country. Doing research in Madagascar is very expensive as a lot of equipment is needed to be out in the rainforest for 3 months, but also because a lot of local Malagasy will be hired. I will be working with a student from the local university, who will serve as a research assistant for the summer. I will pay all of his travel fees, including necessary equipment and a salary for the summer. In addition, I will be hiring local guides, cooks, and porters to help with the project. In addition, I'll be doing training programs in the local villages to teach more sustainable agriculture practices. I believe these components to the project are crucial, and extremely important when doing research in a foreign country.I hope you will consider donating to help me fund this part of my project.Thank you.

Huntly's Cancer Treatment

Jason

Huntly is an 11 year-old Scottish Terrier who was recently diagnosed with Cancer.  The type of cancer is unknown at the time of this writing; however, he is under-going further testing to pinpoint the cause.  I am writing today to plead for donations to assist with his treatment as the cost of diagnosis testing is approaching $2000.  Once we have a diagnosis, the medical staff at Rye Animal Hospital in Marysville, PA will begin a Chemotherapy Protocol to begin attacking the cancer cells.  The cancer treatment will approach another $1000.Finally, the Doctor's are recommending that Huntly travel to Gaithersburg, MD (almost 2 hours away) to undergo fifteen consecutive days of radiation therapy costing approximately $6650.I only posted a request of $5000 as Huntly is my responsibility and I couldn't ask others to cover the whole cost.Personally, I am posting this request in a plea to help my little buddy.  Huntly, just like any Dog or Cat is there for their owners unconditionally.  They are a constant companion during all the good times and the bad times.  Huntly is a very friendly, loving Scottie.  I am constantly told by groomers, Doctors, family, and friends that enjoy being around Huntly as he is extremely friendly with others and especially little children.Over the last few days, I have agonized over which course of action I should pursue.  I have found Oncologists and other Doctors who have told me that there is a good chance they can extend Huntly's life and make it very enjoyable for him, without pain.  No one wants their pet to be in pain, and I have asked that none of treatments provide any pain.  He is very healthy, sturdy, and strong.  (Except for the Cancer)I wish I would have found it sooner; however, Huntly never gave me any indication anything was wrong until a couple of weeks ago.I would never forgive myself if I didn't try to help my very best friend.Update:  03/09/12 - Huntly is recovering from a CT-Scan and some new pills.  His cancer has been diagnosed and instead of Chemotherapy, Huntly is going for Radiation Therapy on March 13th in Gaithersburg, MD.  The Doctors are suggesting one session each week for six weeks.  Huntly has had a very rough week, I sometimes think tests are worse than the illness, sometimes.  Hopefully, he will be feeling up for a trip to the lake on Sunday.Update:  03/13/12 - Huntly had his first radiation treatment performed at VCA Medical Center in Gaithersburg, MD.  He will have the procedure five more times over the next five weeks.Update:  03/20/12 - Huntly had his second radiation treatment today.  He has been doing very well so far.  The Doctors and staff said that he will have a rough time after the second and third treatment.  He is eating well and still active.  I can tell at times he is a bit uncomfortable, but it seems to pass.  The staff said he is very nosey at the facility, Huntly has to say hello to every person and animal he sees.  The staff says he is a pleasure to treat.Update:  03/27/12 - Huntly had his third treatment.  I met with the Doctor afterwards when received good news.  The tumor is shrinking!!!  So far, the medication and the radiation therapy is working.  We hope to see even more progress in the coming weeks.  Huntly has returned to his normal self, he is playing more, he is more active and his scared anxiety moments have disappeared.  He did have a bladder infection, which is being treated with antibiotics.  So far so good... Update:  04/03/12 - Huntly had his fourth treatment.  Afterwards he was very sick, they think he got an embolism in a blood vessel near his hind end.  It has caused him to have difficulty walking and his tail is no longer functional.  His tail was a HUGE part of his personality.  The Doctors are unsure if he will ever get the use back.  I hope so! Update:  04/10/12 - Huntly recovered from being sick prior to last weekend; however, his tail and legs are still an issue.  He was able to get a haircut as he was feeling much better.  This Tuesday, he had his fifth treatment and the Oncologist said he can no longer feel the tumor at certain points.  Except for the tail and back legs, he said he is making remarkable progress.  However, he has started to have expect digestive problems, which required another visit to the Vet for some medications to prevent dehydration.  Next week is his sixth and final treatment, afterwards, we will wait and see how he progresses.
